Set Up FileZilla

Requirements

Install the open source software FileZilla, which has a nice interface for this.

Creating a Bookmark

  1. Open the “Site Manager”. It is like the “Bookmarks” in Firefox/Chrome.

  2. In the window that opens, click on “New Site” at the bottom left. You can immediately enter the name of the site you want to add.

  3. In the “General” tab, use the following settings

    • Protocol - SFTP - SSH File Transfer Protocol
    • Host - ssh.modernleft.org
    • Port - 2225
    • Logon* Type - Interactive
    • User - your username

  4. In the “Transfer Settings” tab, use the following settings

    You can increase this if you have a fast connection with > 10 Mbps upload speed.

    • Limit Number of Simultaneous Connections - check
    • Maximum Simultaneous Connections - 1

  5. Click “OK” to save the settings.

  6. You can now connect by clicking the triangle next to the “Sites” icon and selecting the site you just created.

    NOTE

    This is how you will connect to the site in the future.

  7. In the next pop up “Unknown host key”, click “Always trust this host, add this key to the cache and proceed!” to accept the host key.

  8. You will be prompted for your password. Enter your password and click “OK”.

  9. And you are done!
