Item Sets
An item set is a collection of items. Think of it as a category. One item can belong to multiple item sets, and one item set can contain multiple items.
We've designated two "types" of item sets:
Collection - Root: This is the highest level, and most general in terms of content. These are used to group other item sets, and individual items cannot be added to them.Collection - Sub-Collection: These are sub categories of the root collections. They can contain individual items, and can also contain other sub-collections.
As an example:
Collection - Root: "Collection - Events"Collection - Sub-Collection: "Collection - Events - Israel"
Explaination of Properties
When creating an item set, there are a few properties that need to be filled out. Below is an explanation of each property.
Resource template
The resource template is a predefined set of fields that are used to describe the item set. It auto creates fields.
Title
The title is the name of the item set that will be displayed in the admin backend.
Access settings
Item sets have two settings which control their access. They can be public or not public and they can be open or closed.
Use the make public/private button (eye icon) to make the item set visible to the public or only to all users of the Omeka S installation (not public).
Open/Closed
- Open sets can be edited and organizaers can add items to them.
- Closed sets are available and editable only by its creator, site admins, and global admins.
Public/Not Public
- Public sets are visible to the public, meaning anyone can see them.
- Not public sets are only visible to users who are logged in to the Omeka S instance.
Warning
It is important that you keep the title to simple characters, no special characters. This is because the title is used to sort the files in the backend and special characters can cause issues. ex. Item Set 1 is fine, but Item /\Set 1!@# is not.
