Add a New Item

This is a basic tutorial just to get an item added. It's important to come back later to enter annotations and other metadata.

In the admin dashbard, click on the "Items" link in the sidebar then at the top right, click on the "Add an Item" button.

Values Tab

You'll need to fill out the following fields:

  • Resource template: Item - Base
  • Title: The title of the item.
  • Subject:

Think of this as the "tags" for the item. You can add multiple subjects.

    1. Click the "Primary Subject" button.
    2. In the dropdown that appears that's labeled "Select term below", choose one of the predefined subjects.
    3. Drag the now completed primary subject to the stop of the list using the handle on the left (darker gray rectangle with three horizontal lines).
    4. Either delete the additional blank field using the red trashcan, or add content to it. By clicking "Text" you can add as many subjects as you want.

You should result in something like this: subject-field.webp

  • Country of Origin: The country where the item originated.

  • State or Territory of Origin: The state or territory where the item originated.

Media Tab

Thus is where you can add media to the item. You can add multiple media files. For most cases, you'll select "Upload" from the right hand side, and upload the file from your computer.

Item sets Tab

Here you will add the item to an item set. You must add it to at-least the "Default" set. You can add multiple sets if you want, but the item must be in at least one set.

Warning

It is important that you select the "primary" set first. The name of the first set is used to sort the files in the backend.

Sites Tab

Your user account has a default set based on your permissions. If you have access to multiple sites, you can add or remove them here.

Advanced Tab

This tab is used to set a thumbnail. You don't need to do this as the system generates one automatically.
